In 1986, Bob Douglas of Sheridan,Wyoming taught Steve to make his first saddle. He went home and started building saddles right away. Steve has been influenced and inspired by certain saddlemakers, gearmakers, and horsemen through the years, as well as by feedback from customers who use his saddles on a regular basis.

The winter months in Wyoming are perfect for staying in his shop making saddles, but summers in Wyoming are for riding in the high country. This is accomplished by helping neighbors in Crowheart on their summer cow range at several cow camps that cover thousands of acres in the mountains of Wyoming. This affords him the opportunity to put miles on his horses and saddles in a variety of terrain and situations, from doctoring cows to packing salt and even encountering bear or wolves on a day to day basis which makes for some very interesting riding.
